Will definitely pay off in the long run no doubt. Those sets and the minifigures that come with them will extrapolate. Saw Gerrera I think is going to be huge in the future for collectors.
I don’t like the idea of buying a huge amount of sets then selling them off for 300% more than what you bought them for, but that’s just me. Just appreciate it as a resource to be creative. That’s why many people fell in love with it as kids and why adults love it.
Definitely would sell them slightly under market if I even decide to sell down the track! Will only sell to chase a grail set no doubt. Only purchased one of each so people still have a chance to get one for themselves.
I think with Disney having the rights to Star Wars they’ll keep pumping content out, which means more and more sets. I think in the long run any of those 25th anniversary sets have to increase in value right?
I am only new to collecting myself, so hard to comment on general price tracking over many years.... however yes, I would assume they would grow in demand and value significantly more than other sets. I think anything that is unique or has unique minifigures would be what I would do - so scrapping all the re-cuts of the X-Wing or Starfighters etc.
Having said that, what I am trying to gather at the moment is just dependant on particular sales or deals. I have a few clone trooper battle packs and a justifier in my "to sell" pile. No traction yet, but will be interesting if that changes over time and since I paid essentially as low as possible for them, I am hoping I will turn some profit. I am only doing that to fund more lego, so the amount doesn't really matter!
I originally started collecting lego because i visited a friend of mine , he secretly had this massive collection. In my childhood i remember having heaps of old school sets. If had kept them in unsealed boxes id be a millionaire, but back then we don't have a collector for investment mind set, im a kid and we play with lego. If your rich and want to treat Lego as crypto good on ya . But all its doing is making it harder for young and ppl like me who rekindel their childhood ,harder to get lego in any sets.
Now my budget doesn't allow for large Sets like $1000+ USC Sets . Hopefully when i retire sets won't be $10,000 .
so i tried a chinese knock off for $250 - USC 75252 Star Destroyer, but it was too big and plastic was brittle. I threw that set in the bin after it fell apart several times . This smaller one 75394 was better.
I try to build sets from online instructions.
Anyway , i just being on Bricknews we chat bit, enter every build comp , hopefuly one day win a Monthly Prize . I won several build comps with my creativity.
Yeah well in saying that regardless if you keep it sealed or build it a lot of times it’s gonna be worth more than you payed once being discontinued. So in that sense the whole
“ making it harder for younger people “ isn’t valid in my eyes. Like a lot of things old / vintage they tend to still be worth decent money as they become more & more harder to find. I can always find I the sets I want while they still make the set. Just because someone at the time can’t afford it doesn’t make the ones who keep sealed product the problem.
The thing with Chinese stuff is yeah it’s cheap & easily accessible but 9 times outta 10 once you buy that thing is worth next to nothing. Genuine Lego holds value mostly
Same here, joined for a good chat & love looking at other peoples Lego!! We all have the same passion & it’s great to have a discussion as I don’t have any friends into this hobby!
I feel this... I have two pirate sets from my youth still to re-build, they are worth thousands now I think. Even saying that, they still hold that same value to me once I get them built and displayed :)
Same .. i had the red pirate ship and the blue ship , the islands too. Would have worth a fortune and to rebuy it . I last saw two unopened ships for total of $15,000 . But his dreaming . I wont ever pay that .
That's a great question. I think it factors on many things, but to be the 25th anniversary is a pretty big deal for a lot of Star Wars fans. Definitely something worth doing research on.
I saw story about this on Youtube how adults are ruining Lego Starwars buying up UCS sets and other specials sets and selling later to make profit. Making owning a UCS impossible payingway too much.
I just buy it , throw the box keep the Instructions. Display them and play with them .
I have never buy extra sets unopened to keep them to sell later.
Fair comment! More so buying to display the whole 25th anversery collection still boxed & possibly sell many many years down the track. Not normally one to keep sets sealed but picked up the 25th anniversary advent calendar & ended up not opening. I had no problem finding the UCS millennium falcon well under retail when sold out nation wide. & same goes for a fair few of the other UCS sets
I am building my Sith Infiltrator now with the 25th anniversary Saw!

I think Lego investing is a massive bubble (though I still do it sometimes, so…)
