Hey group! I am fairly new to collecting, and decided fairly early on that I would try and focus on collecting star wars minifigures, and only sets/ships that I particularly like... to save on space in my office. Any tips from those that have been collecting for a while?
For new sets, is it cheapest to buy the whole sets and sell off the set minus minifigures, or wait until can pickup the figures on bricklink or other? (New figures appear more expensive, not sure if just inflated pricing?)
Any other AUS sites other thank bricklink for buying minifigures?
Does anyone buy from international bricklink resellers? (I have been sticking local for now... less risky?)
At first i was just buying multiple sets for lego pieces and later started to collect the figures.
I have plently dark troopers at least 30 because the set had the walls i wanted.
I've bought so many sets, i have at least 20 Darth vaders now , i like the first order Storm troopers.
Sorry - trying to collect all minifigures! So at least one of each in new/good condition. It is a good challenge... that I may never totally achieve, but thats ok! Honestly the army building is kind of happening naturally with some of the battlepacks and inclusions in general sets, that may come later when my two boys are a bit older and want to play/MOC.... but the collection figs will stay locked away :)
On the buying sets Vs figs alone... I was just curious as I have seen some of the newer figs appear, and if I added up all the unique ones I am either set to pay more or there abouts for the value of the set itself. I haven't been collecting long enough to know if they may just be over inflated for 6 months or so until demand dies down... Or if I just follow suit and buy sets.
I will have to start watching ebay a bit more by the sounds of things too.
Very good questions… are you trying to build and army of the same type of minifigure (like clones, stormtroopers etc) or looking to collect numerous individual figures?
BrickLink is probably your best bet, but sometimes there are sellers on eBay that may undervalue a figure making it a cheaper option. I have only purchased zombie minifigures from BrickLink before but the different sellers all shipped them in great condition (one from Hong Kong and one from Singapore).
I personally don’t think buying a set, keeping the figures, and then selling the set is the best approach, because often those sets will have to be heavily discounted by yourself in order for someone else to buy it. Most Star Wars collectors I know desire the figures more than the regular pieces, because regular LEGO pieces can be bought very cheap online.
