An In-Depth View at The Arrival - the Biggest Build Competition Entry on Brick News!

Writer: FraseFrase

When Zachary Illingworth saw the March 2024 Build Competition announcement, he didn't hesitate to begin working on the biggest MOC (an abbreviation of "my own creation) he's ever made. His massive castle, The Arrival, consists of thousands of pieces from his collection.

The Arrival, by Zachary Illingworth.

Zachary got to work almost immediately on his build once the competition was announced.

To build up the foundations of the castle, he had to use almost every light grey and dark grey brick he had at his disposal, in addition to most of the coloured bricks he had in his collection (as seen in a behind-the-scenes image on the right).

He continued to work on the build over several weeks, but estimates the time taken to make the build was likely five full days. With many thousands of pieces used, this MOC is not only the biggest Zachary has ever built, but is actually the largest build in both size and piece count to ever be submitted as a build competition entry on the Brick News website!

After being voted in as the winner of the March 2024 Build Competition by Brick News subscription holders, Zachary won the LEGO Ideas 21343 Viking Village, valued at $210 AUD.

When asked if he had any advice for other Brick News builders, Zachary had the following to say:

"In my Lego room I have all of my pieces sorted by colour and piece type. I find this system to be immensely helpful when looking for pieces to build MOCs and it also offers a way for me to see what options I have and how many of a certain piece I have so I can decide if I want to use a certain design that will be replicated around the build."

You can view some more behind-the-scenes photos of his build in the gallery below, and see his other builds on his Instagram.
