Botanical Collection: Orchid - 10311 LEGO Set Review

Updated: Jul 7

Hello, fellow Bricksters! Today I will be reviewing the LEGO Orchid set (10311).

The Orchid set 10311 contains 608 pieces, which took roughly an hour to build. The design is intricate and accurately resembles a real plant, with the air roots over hanging the geometric pot and the buds on the ends of the stems flowering at a different time to the initial flowers at the begining of the stem, as well as the complex design of the flowers. If you have difficulty keeping your real orchids alive, like us, then this is the set for you.

The design is astounding! The geometrics of the pot is something to be admired, and it suits the colour of the flowers and leaves. Don't be afraid of the loose pieces in the pot, that is just meant to be the mulch! My favourite part is the magenta frog, which represents the pollinia, like a real orchid has. If you've seen the show Stranger Things you would have noticed a piece which is used for the head of a Demogorgon. If you don't want it as part of the plant you can use it to make an orchid Demogorgon minifigure...

Michael Psiaki is the designer for the LEGO Orchid set (10311) as well as the Vespa (40517), Porsche 911 (10295), and Downtown Diner (10260), just to name a few. At the start of the instructions booklet Michael Psiaki said, "Designing orchids that sit in a sand-blue fluted pot, that are not only fun to build but also beautiful to look at, was an exciting challenge for me. While real orchids were brought in to inspire me, I must admit that the LEGO Orchid is far easier to care for and is certainly a lot more enjoyable to be around."

If you love orchids, or know someone who does, or you simply just want to add another set to your LEGO collection then this is for you. It will look good with the other LEGO botanical flowers collection, in your hallway, bedroom, and even in the kitchen! It will co-ordinate with any decor, in any area of your home.
