Bricklink Designer Program’s Series 7 finalists

The latest BDP released its finalists a few weeks ago now, so for some of you who are following Bricklink’s programs this will be old news, but for many of you who rely on Brick News to deliver you LEGO related updates… here we go!

First up lets look at a design by an Aussie! ‘Privateer Frigate Fortuna’, by BrickPerfection, uses the full 4,000 pieces permitted in the BDP. His creation is a vessel that would make a great display piece for any lover of LEGO’s pirate theme builds. But not only would it be nice on display, check out the following features that make it a great play set as well.

Play Features:

  • Run out the Cannons:  Slide cannons in and out, open and close gunports for realistic naval battles.

  • Working Capstan:  Operate both anchors via a selector gearbox. The removable Capstan can be turned with Minifigures on it.

  • Accessible Interior:  Remove the top deck in sections for full access, allowing Minifigures to stand and move below deck.

  • Plentiful details: Prepare food for the crew in the galley, read maps in the captain's cabin or access the storage compartment!

  • Authentic Masts:  Accurate, three-piece masts complete with standing rigging - and Minifigures can climb them!

  • Realistic Hull Shape: Smoothly shaped hull using hinges and horizontal curves using half steps.

  • Structural Integrity:  Built on a technic frame, Fortuna has an exceptionally strong hull and is easy to transport.

  • Dimensions: Length: 81 cm / 31.9 in Width: 29 cm / 11.5 in Height: 62 cm / 24.4 in

If you are in Sydney, Australia over the weekend of May 31-June 1, be sure to get a ticket to ‘Brickbuilt Sydney’ where this finalist design will be on display. (https://www.facebook.com/BrickbuiltSydney)

The next finalist is ‘W.A.L.T. the little robot’, by Leewan. This robot has only 663 pieces in total, and is 21.1cm / 8.3 in tall.

It has 7 interchangeable face displays, and 17 points of articulation, so that you can pose your little robot on you desk or shelf. It also has a compartment in its back with removable batteries made from LEGO too.

The next 3 finalists all got a mention in my previous BDP article as designs that grabbed my attention.

‘Sushi restaurant (寿司屋)’, by Brickproject, is one I thought deserved a top 5 spot. “The model features 3419 bricks and seven minifigures. To keep it playable, the building is divided into two equal parts, allowing full access to the interior.” The little tram adds an extra feature to an already detailed design, and a fun playable aspect for any LEGO city that this set could be added to.

‘Antique Collection’, by terauma, is the intricate cabinet with well designed table and chair that I noted previously. The items that the antique cabinet contains include things such as dolls, fossils, ores, and old tools. But the designer suggests you may wish to use it to display some of your own minifigures or other personal belongings.

‘Alchemist's Shop’, by Shram, is the last of the finalists, and this would fit in nicely with any other medieval or fantasy themed LEGO sets. This design also has plenty of fun details, and creating a story for the characters would be natural and exciting for this build.

Features:

  • Potion laboratory, complete with a mortar and pestle, an alembic, and a lectern for writing down recipes.

  • Potion shop, stocked with all varieties of mystical potions and a scale.

  • Garden, hosting a variety of alchemical plants and fungi.

  • Secret bookshelf compartment, containing hidden treasures for only the alchemist and his most trusted allies.

  • Alchemist's cart folds and unfolds with the turn of a crank.

Refining of the 5 final designs will take place from now until the start of the new year, and crowdfunding (pre-ordering) will happen in February 2026. Then any set with at least 3,000 pre-orders will be produced (to a maximum of 30,000 of each set).

If you think your own LEGO personal design has what it takes to be considered as a finalist for such a program, then you have less than 2 weeks before series 8 is underway!

Bricklink are accepting submissions from April 14th – April 25th 2025. “The best designs have the chance to be Series 8 sets, so get those ideas flowing!”
