Early this morning we emailed our subscribers with a photo of the leaked Marvel Minifigures Series 2, which you can see below. With the new series comes many desirable minifigures... but also some undesirable changes, to the frustration of many fans. Lets break them down.
The image was leaked to multiple Instagram pages. Due to argument over who the photo originates from, we will exclude the source from this article.
First of all, this new series will be one of the first LEGO Minifigures series to make the switch from polybags to boxes. This has led to many fans becoming annoyed and accusing LEGO of increasing the 'gambling' aspect of the series. Some online discussion between users surfaced, which highlighted concerns that you would no longer have an idea of what figure you were purchasing due to "not being able to feel the pieces through the bag."
It is true that many people would feel the polybags to make an informed guess as to which minifigure was inside, so switching to packaging figures in boxes allows LEGO to claim they're being more environmentally friendly whilst also reducing the spread of germs on their packaging. However, we've also seen comments online with fears that children and potentially some adults may open boxes in-store in order to peek inside and check which minifigure is inside. Of course, theft and property damage are unfortunately bound to happen to any store but it is possible that this will increase the risk.
We have seen reports that LEGO will be increasing the price of the minifigures due to the change in packaging, with rumours that they would compensate for this by adding extra tools, weapons and equipment for minifigures. At this time, we are unable to confirm that there will be a price increase but it won't be long before we can. The series is reportedly coming to shelves in September and comes with popular characters from X-Men, Moon Knight and more.
