Sith Fury-Class Interceptor 9500: Set Review

Updated: Jul 7

I’m writing this review because I know there are LEGO Star Wars fans who specifically enjoy the Old Republic and Sith Empire era sets. This is a nice looking set indeed, a good building experience with the angles of the wings and enough difference between the top and bottom of those wings so that it doesn’t become monotonous when building.

Personally, though I did play a little of the Old Republic game, I never got deep enough into the game or that era to see the Fury-Class Interceptor and appreciate it for what it was in the Star Wars universe. But, looking up the ship details and seeing the artwork by its designer, I can notice differences… though that is starting to nit-pick as all LEGO recreations of vehicles have to compensate for things, such as being unable to create unbroken straight lines on an angle due to the nature of the shape of LEGO’s pieces.

The biggest disappointment for me is the lack of space in the rear compartment, with space for one minifigure in the cockpit, the two remaining minifigures that should fit in the rear are quite squashed in there. The rear compartment can slide out though, and the roof opens up quite high, and these do aid with placing the characters in, which is a plus.

The other movable feature, other than the cockpit that opens up, is the rear sections of the wings which can be opened out.

The minifigures included are the Sith Lord Darth Malgus, and two Sith Troopers; these are unique to this set and are cool figures, especially Malgus with his armour and cape.

If you are seeking this retired set, then you may want to decide whether you want it BNIB (brand new in box) or used… and if the latter is fine then do you want just the ship, or if you require the minifigures as well, again especially Malgus, as the Sith Lord is a costly little fella on his own. Make sure to check the condition of the set and figures, and compare prices as they vary greatly… you may be able to pick up something from overseas much cheaper, depending on the postage and exchange rates, etc. You may also wish to grab an incomplete set and pick up the parts to finish it.

This is most likely a set you will want if you are a fan of Darth Malgus, but even if you aren’t, it is a pretty good ship and I think it is worth adding it to your collection if collecting Star Wars ships is your thing.
