Your Guide to Buying LEGO on Black Friday in 2024

Writer's picture: FraseFrase

Got your eyes on a LEGO set but waiting for a good discount? You've come to the right place!

Black Friday always takes place on the last Friday of November. This year, that happens to fall on the 29th of November. During this month, many retailers will offer good discounts leading up to the 29th, but the best deals always drop either the day before or the day of Black Friday.

If you plan to purchase a LEGO by taking advantage of the discounts available this month, there's a few questions you may have:

  1. Will the set I want actually go on sale?

  2. How much stock is available for the set I want?

  3. How do I know I'm actually getting the best deal possible?

  4. Are there any exclusive promotions on LEGO.com?

We'll answer these questions below with helpful information to assist you in getting the most value from your money.

Will the set I want actually go on sale?

This is a commonly asked question by both new and experienced LEGO enthusiasts. There's one general rule of thumb for predicting whether a set will go on sale or not: The longer the set has been available for, the more likely it is to go on discount.

If the set your after just recently released, don't expect it to go on sale right away - especially if you're buying directly from the LEGO Company. Occasionally there are instances where newly-released LEGO sets will go on sale, however this is uncommon and typically won't occur for highly sought-after sets. If the set has been out for over 6 months, there's a higher chance that the set may be eligible to go on sale at retailers and it will likely go on sale at multiple retailers during Black Friday.

How much stock is available for the set I want?

Every LEGO fan's biggest nightmare is seeing an amazing discount available for a LEGO set - only to find that it's sold out. Many retailers and even LEGO themselves rely on consumers fearing a product will go out of stock, tempting them into buying the set they want before it goes on sale. Don't fall for it though - do some research! Before Black Friday arrives, look online or in physical retail stores to see if they have the sets you're after, and make note of which stores have them available.

In physical stores, some employees are happy to use their systems to check the exact amount of stock available for specific sets. If you're worried the LEGO set you want may go out of stock, just ask a store employee if they can check how many are left - it'll likely only take them a couple of minutes to get you an answer, and you can decide whether it's safe to wait or not.

How do I know I'm getting the best deal possible?

It's hard not to feel like a sucker when getting a set 20% off, just to find out one of your friends got it 40% off somewhere else. If you really want to make the most of every cent you spend, you're going to have to make sure you're ahead of the game.

This may not be practical or feasible for many consumers, but waking up at midnight when Black Friday begins is often the best strategy for beating other LEGO fans to the best deals. It may surprise some people to know that tens of thousands of people wake up at 12am to take advantage of Black Friday deals - with LEGO.com being no exception. LEGO sometimes has outages in certain countries and is forced to lock customers out of their website for certain periods of time to avoid crashes.

If you're willing to wake up at 12am and quickly browse all of the retailers stocking the set you're after, you'll quickly be able to determine where the best deal is and get the best value for your money. Just don't blame us if you're tired at work for the rest of the day...

Are there any exclusive promotions on LEGO.com?

Yes - both on the official LEGO website and in the physical LEGO stores you'll find special promotions, which often include exclusive sets or minifigures. In Australia, you can view these deals here when they're announced (if you live overseas, you can click the link and it will redirect you to your country's deals). You should keep an eye on this page in case there are any exclusive sets you don't want to miss out on - ultimately it's up to you whether it's worth purchasing a set to receive the exclusive bonus sets or not.

More helpful tips for Black Friday LEGO purchases:

For anyone new to purchasing LEGO during Black Friday, it's common knowledge that the best deals are often available through third-party retailers. If you're in Australia then stores such as Kmart, Big W, Target, Myer, Toyworld and Amazon (AU) will be some of the main websites to keep your eyes on. If you're overeseas, Kohl's, Walmart, Costco, Sainsbury's and other major retailers will be good places to look, in addition to other LEGO resellers you may be aware of.

If you are going to buy direct from LEGO, don't forget your existing VIP/Insiders points. If you've made direct purchases from LEGO in the past, you likely have a stash of points that can be used towards a further discount, or can be redeemed for a bonus set.

Any intel on black friday sales? I see Kmart and Target are showing a few sets on early access / onepass, but not a lot else. They are not the sets I am after, so curious if anyone knows thats all they are releasing or not. Amazon has had theirs up for a week or so, again... not sure if they will change but looks to be just a few sets.
